Technology continues to advance rapidly. Not only is the work we do evolving, but the way we do it is changing just as quickly. It’s a time when leading with love becomes essential, as for some, these changes mean their jobs are being replaced by tech. For others, it means constantly adapting to new tools and platforms that reshape how, when, and where we get the job done.

But here’s what hasn’t changed: the need for human connection. Regardless of the tools we use or the distance between us, relationships remain the foundation of meaningful work. As Nathasha Bonnevalle points out in her article Leading With Love: Three Great Ways Leaders Show Love in the Workplace:(1)

“The human interactions that underlie good decision making, complex problem-solving, and alignment are becoming more fragile.”

That statement hits home for many of us. Even in the most virtual and tech-driven workplaces, we don’t leave our humanness behind when we log in for the day. Our needs, emotions, and dreams come with us. As Bonnevalle reminds us:(1)

“We want to know that our colleagues respect us, recognize us, care for us – and we want to know that the people who lead us do the same.”

There are countless ways leaders can express care, but here are ten simple, powerful things you can say to those you lead or work alongside:(2)

  • I respect you.
  • You are one of the reasons for our success.
  • Thank you for being such a dedicated and valuable team member.
  • Your service has exceeded my expectations.
  • I can’t imagine working without you.
  • Whatever the task, you always find a way to get it done.
  • What do you think?
  • What can I do to help you?
  • If anyone deserves thanks, it’s you.
  • I’ll take care of it.

Leading with love requires courage. It means creating a culture where people feel safe to be vulnerable and accepted, flaws and all. When leaders foster that kind of environment, teams not only become more resilient, but also more forgiving, collaborative, and committed.

Research consistently shows that cultures where care and compassion are freely expressed see higher satisfaction, stronger commitment, and greater accountability.(1)

At the end of the day, leading with love in the workplace isn’t soft – it’s powerful. It builds trust, strengthens teams, and helps people flourish.
