This week, I caught myself hesitating on a decision. Not because I didn’t know what to do – but because I was afraid of how it might be received. This made me reflect on the importance of purposeful leadership in guiding my choices.
That pause made me think: Was I leading from fear or from purpose? Purposeful leadership challenges us to address these fears and move forward with intention.
Fear whispers that if we take the wrong step, we’ll lose control, credibility, or comfort. It drives leaders to play it safe, to seek approval before progress, which is contrary to the essence of purposeful leadership.
Purpose, on the other hand, moves us forward even when the path isn’t clear. It centers us in “why” instead of “what if.”
When we lead from purpose, our teams feel it. Decisions become steadier. Communication grows clearer. And even when outcomes aren’t perfect, people sense alignment. In other words, they trust the direction because it’s anchored in something deeper than ego or insecurity, exemplifying purposeful leadership.
So, here’s a question worth sitting with this weekend:
👉 Where in your leadership are you being guided by fear rather than purpose? Consider how embracing purposeful leadership can transform these moments.
Maybe it’s a tough conversation you’ve been avoiding. A project you’ve delayed. Or a dream you’ve downplayed.
Whatever it is, purpose is calling you forward.
Lead from that place next week and see what shifts.
PS: If you’re a leader in a small or mid-sized organization who’s building an empowered, high-performing culture, I’d love to hear your story. Your insights could inspire others on Lead Empowered TV, where we spotlight real leaders creating real impact in their workplaces.
