Reflection Saturday: Trust Isn’t A Strategy – It’s a Standard

I’ve been thinking a lot about leading with trust this week. Not the vague, motivational-poster version of trust, but the real kind – the kind you can feel in your gut when you walk into a room. The kind that makes people lean in rather than brace for impact.

After my conversation with Mike Ashabraner on Lead Empowered TV, one thing landed hard: we don’t live in a world that defaults to trust anymore. We live in a world where every promise is examined, every leader is side-eyed, and every brand has to prove it’s not trying to take advantage of someone, especially when tasked with leading through trust.

Trust isn’t something you “announce.” It’s something you demonstrate daily, consistently, and even when it’s inconvenient. It shows up in how you communicate, how you handle conflict, and how you respond when something goes wrong. Leading involves trust as a foundational element in these actions.

Here’s some things I’ve been reflecting on this past week:

People don’t trust what you say – they trust what you repeat.
Credibility isn’t earned by perfection – it’s earned by recovery.
And loyalty isn’t bought – it’s built through meaningful connection.

Leadership today isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room. It’s about being the most dependable one. The leader who listens; the one who admits mistakes; the one who keeps showing up; and ultimately, the one who is trusted.

So here’s your Saturday pause: Where, in your business or leadership, are you asking for trust without earning it? And more importantly, what’s one behavior you’ll commit to this week that builds it? Consider focusing on leading by ensuring trust is always present.

Trust doesn’t happen by accident. It happens on purpose. Every day.
