This week on Lead Empowered TV, I sat down with Russ Hedge – and honestly, you feel his presence before he ever opens his mouth. Some people lead with titles. Russ leads with heart, and his approach is a great example of faith-based leadership.

Our conversation kept circling one simple, uncomfortable truth: life is going to happen to you. The curveballs don’t ask for our permission. The losses don’t wait until we’re ready. But what happens next? That part is ours.

Russ talked about choice not as a motivational poster, but as a daily, sometimes gritty practice. Choosing faith when life feels thin. Choosing connection when isolation feels easier. Choosing purpose when autopilot would be more comfortable. I loved his honesty here, because leaders don’t struggle due to a lack of information. We struggle because the weight of life gets heavy and the noise gets loud.

One moment that stuck with me was the tension between trusting God and wanting control. Too much need for control leads to burnout. Too much passivity leads to more uncertainty. Real leadership, and real faith, lives in the middle, where intention meets surrender. And honestly, that’s a lot easier said than done.

Life Happens… And Then You Choose!

And I’m convinced that choosing well is still one of the most powerful leadership decisions we can make.

PS: If this stirred something for you and you’re ready to take a brave next step, let’s talk. I’m offering a complimentary coaching call — no pressure, just clarity.
