Weekends have a way of slowing things down just enough for the truth to surface, especially the kind we don’t always make time to notice during the week. It’s often during these quiet moments that we become more aware of our circle of influence.
Here’s one worth sitting with today: Your inner circle is shaping your leadership more than your title, your talent, or your workload.
Think about the people you spend the most time with. The ones whose opinions you trust. The ones you vent to when things feel heavy. Their habits, mindsets, and expectations don’t stay with them – they rub off on you.
If the people closest to you avoid hard conversations, leadership starts to feel lonely. If they normalize burnout or constant frustration, clarity gets harder to find. If they resist growth, your own growth begins to feel inconvenient.
But the opposite is also true.
When you’re surrounded by people who value self-awareness, who ask better questions, who hold you accountable without judgment, leadership feels lighter. Decisions feel clearer. Courage shows up faster. Growth feels normal, not threatening.
Here’s the reflection I’ll leave you with today:
Who in your inner circle helps you become a better leader, and who simply helps you stay comfortable?
This isn’t about cutting people off. It’s about becoming more intentional. About choosing proximity that supports the leader you’re becoming, not just the one you’ve been.
Leadership doesn’t grow in isolation. It grows in community.
Take a few minutes today to reflect. The answers might explain more than you expect.
